Police question person in fatal shooting at NYC carnival
NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say a person is being questioned in connection with one of two fatal shootings during J’ouvert, a carnival celebrating Caribbean culture held before dawn each Labor Day.
Authorities said Tuesday that the person was being questioned in Brooklyn over the shooting in the hours before the West Indian Day Parade.
Two people were killed early Monday despite an expanded police presence at the annual pre-dawn festivities.
A 17-year-old boy was shot in the chest. Soon afterward, a 22-year-old woman was shot in the head just a block away.
J’ouvert is held before the parade steps off and fills the streets with music for hours.
