US police investigating alleged J’can lottery scam
MINOT, North Dakota (AP) — Minot police are investigating a phone scam that allegedly originated in Jamaica.
Police say an elderly Minot woman was contacted by someone who claimed to be with the Publishers Clearing House organisation. The caller told the woman she won a car and a large certified check, and asked if she would meet at a Minot retail store to claim her prize.
A Minot officer who had not entered the contest called the number in Jamaica and was told he won US$2.3 million. The officer was told that a certified check would be delivered to him in person after he made a payment for taxes.
