Which ‘Governor’ will rule?
The prestigious Governor General’s Stakes over 10 furlongs (2,000 metres) is down for competition on Saturday September 24, 2016.
A number of top-flight contenders have been provisionally entered in their attempts to earn the major slice of the $1,200,000 purse.
Topping the list of the eight provisional entries is reigning horse of the year, Seeking My Dream.
The Wayne DaCosta-trained four-year-old carries top weight of 57.0 kilogrammes and allows four kilogrammes to last year’s Superstakes winner, the Richard Azan-trained Franfield.
The line-up also includes known stayer and last year’s winner, Perfect Neighbour, who continues to seek enough stakes earnings to run in the Diamond Mile in December.
Two very interesting entries are the imported filly, Long Running Train, and this year’s St Leger winner, Bigdaddykool. Long Running Train is on top of her game at this time, and if she is nominated on Wednesday, she is going to prove a formidable contender.
Bigdaddykool, the only three-year-old among the eight entries, goes over a journey right up his alley and is bound to run well, especially after a good effort over nine furlongs and 25 yards on last.
A good race is in the making.
