Who will be the second ‘Front Runner’?

Who will be the second ‘Front Runner’?

The second and final race in the Newport Mills-sponsored Front Runner Sprint series of two-year-old races carrying a purse of $1 million takes place tomorrow over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100 metres) at Caymanas Park.

On September 3, the first Front Runner Sprint ended in bizarre circumstances as runaway leader Balazo – apparently all set to triumph – veered off course and crashed into the outside rails, thereby gifting the race to the Richard Azan-trained Awesome Sauce.

Tomorrow’s encounter sees five maidens and three untried vying for top honours.

The Complete Racing Guide examines the chances of the eight runners in the Front Runner Sprint.

CHRISANLI – (Adore The Gold – Adina): This is the third outing for this bay colt. He has so far finished in second place twice, although well behind El Gato and Money Magnet. Of note, trainer Winston Morris has now introduced Lasix and the tongue tie for the first time. Not without a chance.

FLOWERS THIRTY – (Nasheet – Souffler): This bay filly has entered the starting gates on five occasions without stirring the attention of punters. Will continue to do so in the Front Runner.

SILVER ROCKET – (Porto Santo – Silver Mint): This bay colt is one of the three first-time runners in the field of eight. Nothing much to report from the clockers, but should not be excluded from reckoning, especially coming from the stables of Fitzroy Glispie. Noticeable is that Silver Rocket is to be ridden by Wesley Henry, which suggests a possible front-running effort.

SHE’S A MANEATER – (Natura Selection – Awhofah): This bay filly is really well bred and is a half-sister to the talented 2,000 Guineas winner of last year, Ali Baba. She has attracted attention at exercise several times. The talk is that She’s A Maneater is of good quality and is expected to win this one. Natural Selection, the sire of She’s A Maneater, is known to produce stayers, while dam Awhofah is best known for middle-distance runners, so it will be very interesting to see if this early in her career, She’s A Maneater will be at home going five-and-a-half furlongs.

TERRI’S PRINCESS – (Traditional – Reggae Nation): This bay filly also comes from the barn of Fitzroy Glispie. The possible giveaway of the two Glispie horses are the riders chosen: the aforementionedSilver Rocket has Wesley Henry, whileTerri’s Princess has the services of apprentice Amoy Gray.

FIRST SELECTION – (Natural Selection – Cliffy’s Choice):First Selection (bay filly) will be racing for the second time, having finished second in her first race – but 13 lengths behind the winner, Awesome Sauce. First Selection has done nothing since to indicate a winning effort here.

ROBIN’S QUEST – (Bridled Quest –Rose Royce): This chestnut gelding has raced twice without much attention and that trend is almost certain to continue. Robin’s Quest is a half-brother to Born Fighter and She Goose.

PORTUGAL – (Porto Santo – Your No Daisy): This bay filly has raced once thus far in her career, finishing fourth way behind Awesome Sauce 21 days ago. She is a half-sister to Humble Lion and Chances Are.
