4 schools remain perfect with 5th straight wins

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Four schools including three former champions, Cornwall College, Dinthill Technical and Garvey Maceo High, as well as Paul Bogle High ran their perfect win records to five straight games as the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition continued yesterday.

Another former champion Rusea’s High stayed perfect in Zone B with a 9-0 trouncing of Knockalva Technical High, while four teams lost their perfect win records.

Vere Technical, winners of their first five games, gave up a 2-0 lead and had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Bustamante High; Manchester High and Mile Gully drew 1-1, while Port Antonio High were beaten 2-1 by Fair Prospect High.

In his first game of the season, national Under-20 player Peter-Lee Vassell scored twice in the second half to lead Cornwall College to a 3-0 win over St James High in Zone A at Jarrett Park as they took over sole leadership of the group with 15 points.

Jourdaine Fletcher had scored from the penalty spot in the 18th minute to snap St James High’s run of not conceding a goal at 378 minutes to give Cornwall College the lead.

Alwayne Harvey scored twice and Kimani Pryce the other as Dinthill Technical beat second-placed Ewarton High 3-0 in Zone K, while Gavin Roberts scored a hat-trick to take his tally to eight goals as Garvey Maceo romped 7-0 over Denbigh High.

In Zone O Odaine Marriott scored the lone goal as Paul Bogle High edged Morant Bay High 1-0 to stay perfect.

Rusea’s High had a big 9-0 spanking of Knockalva as three players scored two goals each — Javoy McLeod, Sachin Wilmot and Javoy Dias — as they won their third straight game in Zone B.

Meanwhile, in the St Elizabeth derby defending champions St Elizabeth Technical rebounded from their loss to Lacovia mid-week to beat Munro College 2-1 in Santa Cruz.

A goal from the prolific Jovoney Brown and an own goal gave STETHS a 2-0 lead before Oneeko Allen pulled one back for Munro College who stayed in third place as Lacovia were held 0-0 by Newell but edged to 10 points, two more than Munro College.

Alvares Cooper scored his sixth goal of the season as Godfrey Stewart edged Grange Hill to stay on top of Zone D.
