SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Dwight Williams — alias ‘Dewie’, 31, of Retirement in north-west St Elizabeth — who is wanted by the police for a murder on September 15, as well as a shooting in May of this year, is being urged to turn himself in to law enforcers.

“We are saying to Mr Williams, please turn yourself in, we want to talk to you,” chief of police in St Elizabeth Superintendent Lanford Salmon told the Jamaica Observer.

Allegations are that on September 15, Williams shot and killed 26-year-old farmer Reynardo Wallace during an argument. Wallace was rushed to hospital where he died.

Police say Williams is also wanted for the shooting and injuring of another resident of Retirement, who was said at the time to be a relative of his girlfriend.

Police say Williams is an ex-convict who is also connected to the Stone Crusher Gang, the remnants of which operate in the rugged terrain of the St James/St Elizabeth border, close to the Cockpit Country.

Williams is armed and dangerous and should be approached with caution, police say.

Salmon noted yesterday that in 2013, criminals involved in lotto scamming and gang feuding had undermined law and order in the area. The police, he said, had done considerable work in restoring order in the area and would not allow their efforts to be undone.

“We want everyone to understand that criminals will not have safe haven in St Elizabeth,” Salmon said.
