ST JAMES, Jamaica (JIS) — Police Commissioner, Dr Carl Williams, says the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) will be unrelenting in its efforts to find and bring to book those involved in criminal acts in St James.

Speaking at a news conference in Montego Bay, St James, yesterday, Commissioner Williams said the police have already reaped some success in their search, with a number of arrests taking place recently.

“We have dramatically improved our deployment by pulling personnel from other areas, and stationed them in Montego Bay,” the commissioner said.

He pointed out that while the focus will continue to be on the hot spots in and around the city of Montego Bay, attention will also be paid to the surrounding areas.

Dr Williams noted that the Maroon Town Police Station in South St James will be up and running, shortly, with a full team of police officers and equipment.

He said the JCF will be reinstituting the Lottery Scam Task Force, which will be deployed across western Jamaica, adding that several detectives will be assisting in crime investigations to ease the workload which now exists.

Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Antony Anderson, who also addressed the conference, said the military presence has been significantly increased in Montego Bay.

He said this is being supported by an increase in air and armoured assets, which will remain in the parish for some time.

The Major General welcomed the proposed establishment of a Coast Guard base in Montego Bay, noting that it will assist to patrol and control the island’s borders.
