What am I to do with my orchids to preserve them during the passing of a Hurricane?

Dear Nurse:

I will share with you my first ‘orchid’ Hurricane experience.

I uprooted most of my orchids, to shelter them inside my garage. After the hurricane, the ones outside looked much happier than those that I had uprooted. That was the last time I uprooted them. Many like myself have been lucky so far.

Dear Orchid Doc:

I am a reader who is a resident in New York.

I have a couple of phalaenopsis that I put outside during the summer. They have sprouted new leaves and roots and are looking quite healthy. My question is this: when should I bring them in? The temperature is currently in the 60s

Now is about the time you should bring them in, until the winter has passed. Look out for another bloom before the winter is out.
