THE Alliance Française de la Jamaïque, the Embassy of France and the Jamaica Animation Nation Network, are partnering on this year’s staging of the French Animation Film Festival in Jamaica to be held October 26 – 29.

This festival, which debuted locally in 2012, seeks to make the art of animation more accessible to the public and to contribute to the promotion of films and their creators.

“We at the Alliance are into the promotion of French language and Francophone culture here in Jamaica and considering how big animation is in France, we thought why not bring some of that to Jamaica, as cinemas is a great avenue to share the language and culture,” Stefane Daley, acting executive director of the Alliance told the Jamaica Observer.

“In France, a whole month is dedicated to animation so we decided to just hold a week of film, which includes International Animation Day on October 28,” she continued.

A selection of French feature-length films subtitled in English will be screened nightly. In addition to foreign films, local and regional animators will have the opportunity to showcase their talent by submitting works for screening.

The festival will be held at the Multifunctional Room, UWI, Mona (Main Library). Screening begins at 7:00 pm.

Among the films to be screened are Adama by Simon Rouby; Phantom Boy by Alain Gagnol and Jean-Loup Felicioli; Aya de Yopougon by Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie; Battledream Chronicle by Alain Bidard.
