UPDATE: 2 cops shot while trying to foil robbery
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two policemen were reportedly shot and injured Monday evening while attempting to foil a robbery on a public passenger bus, which was travelling along Spanish Town Road in St Andrew.
A police source informed OBSERVER ONLINE that one of the policemen was travelling on the bus when a gunman started to rob passengers.
The policeman engaged the armed robber and a shoot-out ensued, resulting in the policeman being shot.
The second policeman, who was reportedly in the area, responded when he heard the explosions and was shot in the leg as he attempted to board the bus, the source said.
The injured policemen were taken to hospital where they are now being treated.
The police source also informed that a man later turned up at hospital with a gunshot wound.
The man was questioned and taken into police custody. The lawmen did not disclose whether or not the injured man was the robber on the bus.
