Keep Work Safe
After a warning has been issued, everyone at work usually becomes busy and there always seems to be a kind of panicking buzz in the air. The best thing you could ever do is to remain calm… it would be pointless to go storming through the office doors anyway- less you think about the traffic first. All we ask is that you take the following steps into consideration and do you best to survive the onset of a hurricane. It’s comes down to preparation and planning anyway.
At work:
1. Clear desk tops completely of paper and other articles, and place these items in drawers or file cabinets.
2. Back up critical computer files and store them in an off-site location (preferably in another region).
3. Unplug all computers and other electronic equipment, cover with plastic, and tape down.
4. Move desks, file cabinets, computer systems, and irreplaceable materials away from windows and off the floor (preferably into interior room with no windows).
If flooding is a possibility, relocate critical equipment from the ground floor to a higher floor or a higher off-site location.
5. Lock file cabinets and desk drawers.
6. Board up windows and large exterior glass doors before any major hurricane. (If you can’t do this, use masking tape in a cross-hatch pattern on any large glass areas.)
7. Close and lock windows and lower blinds.
8. Lock and secure all doors.
9. Remove all loose items (garbage cans, chairs, tables, plants, etc.) from outside the buildings.
10. Don’t return to the workplace until the “all clear” is given.
