Third man charged after soldier killed in barbershop
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police say a third man has been charged with the murder of Lance Corporal Ricardo Bennett of the Jamaica Defence Force.
In a news release Tuesday, the police’s Corporate Communications Unit said the third man’s arrest was as a result of “persistent and efficient work” by investigators assigned to the St Andrew Central Division.
The third accused has been identified as 24-year-old construction worker Paul Hyman of East Lane, Kingston.
Hyman was reportedly pointed out during an identification parade on Monday.
Hyman and 25-year-old Sheldon Brown, otherwise called ‘English’, as well as 36-year-old Dwayne Bedasse have been charged with murder, robbery with aggravation and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
They will appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday, October 20, the police say.
Lance Corporal Bennett was gunned down about 10:00 pm at a barbershop on Half-Way-Tree Road in St Andrew, when armed men entered the establishment on Friday, September 2.
