SYDNEY, Australia (CMC) — West Indies women’s captain Stafanie Taylor is set to return to Sydney Thunder for next December’s Women’s Big Bash, after signing with the franchise for a second season.

The 25-year-old right-hander is one of the leading batsmen in the women’s game and was a major success for Thunder last season as they captured the inaugural Twenty20 title.

“It’s good to be back in the green. I enjoyed my first season, I had a good time [and] I think the competition was really good,” the Jamaican batting star said.

“[Australia] is one of my favourite places to play. I think the competition is really competitive, playing with world-renowned players. It’s a good standard.”

Taylor was sixth on the run scorers list for the last Big Bash, finishing with 393 runs at an average of 32, with two half-centuries.

She also grabbed 10 wickets with her off-spin at an average of 24 and an economy rate of six, and her all-round abilities made her an important asset to Thunder.

Thunder head coach Jo Broadbent said Taylor’s capabilities would be of value to the franchise once again.

“She’s probably one of the strongest hitters in the game I’ve ever seen, even comparing her to someone like Karen Rolton (former Australia women’s captain),” Broadbent said.

“She’s very athletic in the field and good part-time off-spinner for us as well.”

Taylor will team up with Thunder captain and main batter Alex Blackwell who topped the franchise run-scoring list last season with 410 runs.

And the free-scoring West Indies batsman said she was looking forward to reuniting with her skipper.

“I love to get in Alex’s ear. I think she’s one of those players you can talk to, especially about captaincy, as she’s been playing a long time,” Taylor said.

“It’s good to be around someone like that who is very positive. I really enjoyed my time with her.”

The Women’s Big Bash runs from December 10 to January 28, 2017.
