The bubbly Buzz Nightmare, winner of his last four races from five starts this season, and the imported filly Long Running Train, the winner of the Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup recently are among a hugely competitive field of 10 set to test the virtuosity of top Grade One performer Seeking My Dream as they compete in the Alex’s Import Gold Cup Graded Stakes race at Caymanas Park today.

The Gold Cup is one of 18 Grade One races carded for older horse each racing season and it is contested over 1,400 metres for a purse of $1.5 million with the major share of $819,000 going to the winner. Positioned as the penultimate race on the card, the Gold Cup event is scheduled to be run off at approximately 4:35 pm with the first post at noon.

Eleven races are carded on the Heroes Day programme with the Gold Cup as the major feature and will be further highlighted by the Heroes Day Stakes Trophy and the Norman Manley Memorial Cup, supporting feature races.

Also carded is the Alex’s Import New Parts Department Plaque, a high-profile call for native-bred two-year-olds only. The maiden special weight contest has attracted a quite promising field of nine that will go 1,400 metres for the first time for a purse of $800,000.

Buzz Nightmare, owned by 2 Penyu and trained by Philip Feanny, has been the star performer so far this season with impressive victories over the shorter sprint distances. It will be the first time that the Into Mischief bay colt will venture beyond 1,200 metres this season and his preparation does not suggest that he will be a factor in a race of this nature. Nonetheless, hailing from the stables of shrewd conditioner Buzz Nightmare cannot be overlooked coming in with only 50.0kg and jockey Oneil Mullings, who rode the colt twice to victory in his last three wins.

While Buzz Nightmare may be in a spot of bother to turn over this field, the imported filly Long Running Train will definitely enjoy the trip. She has trained well and with a 3.0kg advantage and Robert Halledeen up may just manage to get the betterSeeking My Dream whom she has never beaten.

This is a race with very good speed and speed that comes from horses that will get a distance of ground. Probably the single exception is

Buzz Nightmare, who is yet proven going this far.

If there is any danger to Seeking My Dream, it can come from the imported four-year bay colt Brawn. Here is a horse that gets a distance of ground with the minimum of fuss yet when sprinting he is electric running on. And with a mere 51.5kg, his chance to win here is quite fair.

Albeit, this is Grade One company and only two genuine contestants in the Wayne DaCosta-trained Seeking My Dream andTypewriter from the stables of Spencer Chung are present along the only survivor of last year’s edition, Phineas, who finished fourth carrying 50.0kg.

The others, therefore, will have to produce something special to prevent either of these two outstanding servants of local racing from taking the event with the nod going to Seeking My Dream following his emphatic victory in the Eros Trophy going the same distance as the Gold Cup that was won by his stablemate Perfect Neighbour last year.Seeking My Dream will be ridden by Omar Walker, while the claiming apprentice Bebeto Harvey will have the leg onTypewriter.
