JTA to support teachers grappling with stress after two die
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) has pledged to support teachers who face “high stress levels” while carrying out their professional duties, following the deaths of two teachers yesterday.
In a news release Wednesday, the JTA said it is saddened by the sudden deaths of the two teachers, one of whom taught at Kingston College while the other taught at Norman Manley High.
Both teachers reportedly died in separate incidents on Tuesday.
The JTA said a team, led by JTA President Howard Isaacs, today visited both institutions where they expressed condolences to the staff and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
The deceased teachers are 39-year-old Christopher Gayle of Kingston College and Nadine Trail of Norman Manley High.
In the meantime, President Isaacs cited a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between the JTA and National Health Fund as one of the avenues which will serve to assist teachers.
