NWA urges extreme caution along the Gordon Town main road
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced major work to repair a failed section of Gordon Town main road in St Andrew, and is urging motorists to exercise extreme caution while using the corridor.
A retaining wall is now being built at a depth of some 20 feet.
Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that contractors working on the retaining structure will be excavating about 27 metres along the roadway in order to erect the wall. This is being done in two phases.
He says safety features have been implemented in the vicinity of the work area, but it has been observed that some motorists are speeding along the significantly reduced road. This presents clear dangers to people and as such the NWA is urging operators of motor vehicles, including JUTC buses, to exercise caution in the area.
The affected section of the Gordon Town main road is being repaired at a cost of over $27 million and should be completed in three months.
