NEPA investigating oil spill in Kingston Harbour
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) said it is investigating a report of an oil spill in the Kingston Harbour, which occurred yesterday afternoon.
In a news release today, NEPA disclosed that preliminary reports indicate that the spill took place in the vicinity of Gordon Cay.
The agency said the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is currently coordinating the clean-up and containment activities being undertaken by the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard.
NEPA said it is advising fisherfolk and other marine interests to avoid Gordon Cay and surrounding areas until advised otherwise.
