Dancer caught stealing 3 bottles of Hennessey from supermarket
A dancer who stole three bottles of Hennessey from Megamart Supermarket and hid one in his pants had to fork out $30,000 to avoid two months’ imprisonment.
Thirty-four-year-old Milton Henry of Cassia Park in St Andrew, was fined by Parish Judge Andrea Collins after he pleaded guilty to simple larceny.
The court heard that on November 12, Henry went to the supermarket and proceeded to the liquor aisle with a brown one-strap bag and a trolley. He placed four bottles of liquor in the trolley and went to other sections of the supermarket to shop for other items.
Henry then went to the cashier and paid for some of the items and exited the supermarket. He was then accosted by security guards who took him to their office and searched him.
Two bottles of the expensive liquor were found in his bag, while one was found in his pants. The liquor was valued at $40,918.
The police were summoned and he was subsequently arrested and charged.
Henry, when cautioned, reportedly said: “Is a party mi a go and waan some liquor.”
When he appeared in court last Wednesday, he produced a piece of paper claiming that it was a medical certificate, which indicated that he suffers from seizures.
But the judge told him that that could not help his case.
She then asked him: “You don’t make any money from your occupation?”
“At times, mostly,” Henry answered.
“You’re not saying you had a seizure and mistakenly walked out with the bottle?” the judge asked Henry, who indicated that he had accepted responsibility for the liquor.
He was then ordered to pay $30,000 or serve 60 days in jail.
