Johnson Smith to update Senate on UK prison offer
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Leader of Government Business, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, will update the Senate this morning on the issue of Government building a maximum-security prison in Jamaica, with assistance from the Government of the United Kingdom.
Senator Johnson Smith will answer questions from Opposition member Senator Lambert Brown.
Senator Brown has asked: The approximate number of Jamaican nationals now incarcerated in prisons in the United Kingdom (UK); the number of Jamaican nationals deported to Jamaica annually during the period January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2015; whether or not any agreement exists between the Government of Jamaica and the Government of the United Kingdom (UK Government), which prevents the UK Government, acting in its own self-interest, from deporting Jamaican nationals now incarcerated in their prisons before those prisoners complete their sentences?
During “Public Business”, the Senate will also debate two Bills: The Partnership (Limited) Act, 2016; and The Partnership (General) Act, 2016.
