Security ministry hosts empowerment fair for volatile Barrett Town
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of National Security will tomorrow host what it is calling an “empowerment fair” for communities in Barrett Town, St James.
The ministry, in a statement, said that the fair, scheduled from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, will provide residents in Barrett Town and its environs with the opportunity to get information and services from a number of government agencies.
The agencies will include: the Peace Management Initiative, Registrar General’s Department, Citizen Security & Justice Programme, HEART/NTA, the Jamaica Defence Force, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and Jamaica Aids Support.
Earlier this year an agreement was reached for an $18 million project to be held in Barrett Town to remove zinc fences from the surrounding communities.
The town is a volatile hotspot of crime in the western parish.
