Woman cries in court after hitting son with wood
A woman, who used a piece of wood to hit her teenage son in his head, stemming from a complaint that was lodged by her partner about the boy’s refusal to shower, was in tears when she appeared in court.
The 45-year-old woman admitted in court last Friday that she used the wood to hit him on the side of his head but that it was not intentional.
According to reports, on March 5 the 15-year-old student, who resides with his grandmother, went to collect his dinner from his mother. While there, his mother’s partner told him that he “smell renk” and that he should go and bathe, but the boy in reply told him that it could not be him that he smelt as he had just showered. He then left.
The man reportedly went and complained to the boy’s mother who then sent his sister to call the boy. However, it was reported that the boy told the sister to inform his mother he was requesting that she ask her partner to stop “walk and smell” him and to leave him alone, and then he was requesting that she went home.
The mother reportedly went to her son’s home, shoved his grandmother to the ground, and proceeded to beat him with the object.
The matter was later reported and she was arrested and charged.
When the woman appeared in court she pleaded guilty to cruelty to a child and assault occasioning bodily harm but indicated that: “It was not intentional.”
“So your right hand just get up and hit him,” Judge Pettigrew-Collins said to the mother, who had tears running down her face.
She then asked her and the boy’s father if they were willing to go to mediation and they both agreed.
Her bail was then extended for her to return to court on June 22.
