#Champs2017: Francis, Powell cop Class Two 400m titles
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Kimara Francis made it a double for St Jago High School in the girls 400m, as she copped the Class Two title, while Edwin Allen’s Jevaughn Powell took the boys’ section at the 107th staging of the ISSA/ GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium a short while ago.
The determined Francis made a telling move 10 metres from home to win in 54.11 seconds and showed off her dance moves much to the appreciation of the large crowd. She just got the better of a tiring favourite Sanique Walker (54.19s) of Vere Technical High.
Anna-Kay Allen of St Catherine ran a blinder to close well for bronze in a time of 55.06 seconds.
Meanwhile, Powell, who has been showing good form all season, started late and came with a burst of speed to win in 48.11 seconds. Antonio Watson of Excelsior was second in 48.54 seconds, also getting by the early leader Evaldo Whitehorne (48.78s) of Calabar, who ran out of steam close to the line.
