MOST of the horses set to compete in the Cash Pot Mega Ball-sponsored 1000 Guineas (fillies) and the 2000 Guineas (colts and geldings) completed their final gallops over last weekend.

Both these Classic races are run over eight furlongs (1,600 metres) with decision day set for next Saturday, April 8.

Top juvenile of last season Sotomayor trained by Anthony Nunes on Sunday morning worked with stablemate Donate, setting off for their gallops slightly apart.

Both horses were clocked in 1:14.3 seconds for six furlongs (1,200 metres). Nunes’ top filly Bilingual also galloped over six furlongs with a recorded time of 1:12.2 seconds, while Runallday came in with 1:15.0 seconds for six furlongs.

Horses from the camp of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta were out in numbers, with main interest in the filly She’s A Maneater who galloped six furlongs in 1:12.2 seconds.

Fearless Samurai, winner of the Prince Consort, galloped six furlongs in 1:13.2 seconds. Radical did not gallop on Sunday; instead he cantered nine furlongs.

Other DaCosta trained horses to gallop on Sunday morning were Rambunctious Links who galloped six furlongs in 1:14.2 and Loose Cannon who came home in 1:16.0.

Trainer Richard Azan’s charge Money Magnet did 1:14.2 seconds for six furlongs, while Sarah Lee from the camp of trainer Gary Subratie was easy while galloping 1:03.1 for five furlongs. Marlene My Love, gearing for the 1000, galloped 1:12.4 for six furlongs.

On Saturday Western Warrior, second in the Prince Consort behind Fearless Samurai, galloped six furlongs in 1:142 for his trainer Fitznahum Williams.
