KINGSTON, Jamaica — Spirits were high at Red Hills Road this morning as students of Calabar High School celebrated their sixth straight victory in the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships.

The victory, which came against widespread predictions, is Calabar’s 27th hold on the Mortimer Geddes trophy. 

Chief Executive Officer of Grace Kennedy Limited Don Wehby was on hand to congratulate the school and star athlete Christopher Taylor, who anchored Calabar to victory in the event-clinching final event, the Class One 4×400 metre.

Kingston College went into the final event on 309 points, holding a four-point advantage over Calabar and needed to finish at least second to become champions.

However, Calabar, the top seed in the 4×400 m, sped away to victory in a very fast 3:08.76 minutes for 12 invaluable points, while KC were unable to muster the required second place to clinch the Champs victory.

Calabar ended on 317 points to KC’s 314.
