Dear Editor,

I was in Jamaica for the most exciting Boys’ and Girls’ Champs event.

After the meet I went to Island Grill in New Kingston to purchase a meal. After I made my purchase, I noticed a police officer, in uniform, in line, also waiting to make his purchase of a meal. The officer was waiting patiently like any other customer. He did not use his position to get any favours.

I believe that our officers need to be treated otherwise.

I am requesting your help in publishing this letter of appeal to all business owners to give police officers and soldiers in uniform priority of service. No police officers or soldiers in uniform should stand in line to make any purchase. This should be a courtesy given with special consideration for what they do.

I am appealing to the minister of national security to help make this a common courtesy to the men and women who put their lives on the line every day. Just another way of saying thank you for what you do.
