ST CATHERINE, Jamaica (JIS) — The work of the Social Development Commission (SDC) will be boosted by a Government allocation of $50 million.

Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Desmond McKenzie, says the money will be used to improve a number of the organisation’s facilities and to enhance their community building programme.

McKenzie also disclosed that the SDC will be part of a public sensitisation campaign to address concerns by the public on property tax payments.

“The SDC has a wide array of workers, and we have brought them into the team to be part of community efforts to disseminate the property tax message,” he said.

McKenzie, who delivered the keynote address at a long-service and staff awards function, organised by the SDC and held at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club, in St Catherine yesterday, lauded the Commission  for adhering to procurement rules and efficiently delivering programmes initiated by the Government for communities.

“The governance structures are working, and I am impressed with their work.  I am looking forward to much more work by the SDC,” the minister said.

McKenzie also congratulated the awardees. 

Community Development Officer for Central Manchester, Alicia Rickard, was awarded the National Officer for the year. Parish Manager for Clarendon, Baldwin McKenzie, was recognised for 26 years of service to the organisation.
