TO ADD TO IDRIS STORY
JAMPRO’s Film Commissioner Renée Robinson said that the film commission is focusing on building more global relationships to realise business opportunities for the Jamaican film industry. She explained that the meetings with Elba and with director Joel Zwick in January this year are part of the Commission’s strategy to directly connect with players in the film industry, to encourage filming in Jamaica, which would include not only selecting a location but also employment for Jamaica’s film industry.
Robinson further explained, “When productions choose Jamaica as a location, the positive economic impact is felt through employment for local cast and crew, engagement of production services companies, with the multiplier effect on the economy as a whole. To attract more high-profile productions as well as stimulate local industry development, it is crucial that we meet global standards of production facilitation through mechanisms such as production incentives and a film fund.”
