TRAINER of Saturday’s Guineas winners, She’s A Maneater (1000) and Fearless Samurai (2000), Wayne DaCosta is informing that both of his charges came out of their engagements well and have since settled into their normal routines.

Speaking with the Complete Racing Guide early yesterday DaCosta said: “So far, so good.

Both returned to the stables in good nick and after more detailed checks were made on Sunday morning, there is nothing untoward to report, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

They having been eating well and now it is on to the next stage.” The champion trainer then added that while the path for She’s A Maneater is pretty clear, Fearless Samurai’s fate is a tad more difficult to plot.

“She’s A Maneater will next race in the Oaks (10-furlongs, 2,000m) at the end of this month and after that we will see how she comes out of that race and then a decision will be made as to whether or not she enters the Jamaica Derby.

Jockey Omar Walker has indicated to me that he believes she stays forever, so that is a plus, if that is anything to go by.

So, we wait. “As for Fearless Samurai, I will have to sit down and look closely at the races which are available, then put together a strategy for him.

Right now, I cannot say when he will race again,” DaCosta said. Looking back at the run by She’s A Maneater to achieve Classic success, DaCosta said he was very sure that his charge woukld give of her best and possibly more.

“It was a good performance… it was a workman or workwoman, if you wish, like performance by She’s A Maneater. The track turned out to be a speed track today (Saturday) and basically, I didn’t give Omar [Walker] too many instructions.

He sat pretty close to the pace and by the time they reached the mile, She’s A Maneater took over the race and she just used her class and imposed it on the other fillies,” DaCosta said.

With regard to Fearless Vision, DaCosta noted that it was a more difficult race for his chestnut gelding and gave credit to Walker for producing an excellent ride. “It was an excellent performance from Fearless Samurai.

He sat off the pace and was able to quicken leaving the three-furlong marker and he opened in the lane and was able to hold on for the victory.

It was also an excellent ride from Omar Walker, I mean the ride was picture-perfect,” DaCosta told the Complete Racing Guide.

Commenting on his other runner, Radical, who came from last at the top of the lane to finish fourth, the champion trainer was clear as to what needs to be done.

“Radical always seems to be running the same way every time. Let’s hope we can iron him out from now until the Derby because he has the ability but he keeps losing his races in the first four furlongs, so the task now is to try and straighten him out and get him to react quicker,” he said.
