Westmoreland accounts for 22% of 2017 road fatalities
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Of the 89 road fatalities which have occurred across the island this year some 22 per cent have occurred in the parish of Westmoreland.
According to statistics from the transport ministry’s Road Safety Unit (RSU), along with St Catherine and Clarendon, the parish accounts for almost half (46 per cent) of all lives lost in road crashes this year.
According to RSU, road fatalities have decreased by 24 per cent when compared with the similar period in 2016.
Males continue to be the predominant victims of such crashes, making up 83 per cent of the lives lost.
