#CariftaGames: Stephens, Harriot bring home U18 200m gold; Salmon takes 5000m bronze
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Calabar High’s Michael Stephens and Michae Harriott of Holmwood Technical each ran to gold in the boys’ and girls’ Under-18 200m finals at the 2017 FLOW CARIFTA Games in Curacao this afternoon.
Stephens led a one-three Jamaica finish in 21.30 seconds, with teammate Xavier Nairne (21.58) claiming bronze. Joel Johnson of Bahamas was second in 21.55 seconds.
Then, Harriot won the girls’ race in 23.73 seconds ahead of Bahamian Devine Parker (23.87) and Antiguan Joella Lloyd (24.01). Harriot’s teammate Joanne Reid finished fifth in 24.06 seconds.
Meanwhile, Jamaica earned a bronze in the Under-20 boys’ 5000m through Shemar Salmon of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) who finished 17:00.50, behind Caymanian Dominic Dyer (15:55.02) and Antiguan Kalique St Jean (16:02.77).
