‘Yard’ vibes in France
THE Inna De Yard band/ group’s European tour begins Wednesday with a show at Aeronef in Lille, France.
They will do two more dates — April 22 at Philarmonie de Paris and April 23 at Cactus Club in Bruges, Belgium — before returning to Jamaica. The second leg of the tour is scheduled to start on June 2 at Site du Festival in Saint Laurent De Cuves, France.
It ends in August at Rototom Sunsplash in Spain. Winston McAnuff, Cedric Myton, Kiddus-I, Derajah and Kevar “Ras Child” Williams are the artistes on the trek.
They are backed by a band that includes veteran guitarist Winston “Bo Pee” Bowen, drummer Rashaun McAnuff, bassist Ruel Ashburn and percussionist Alphonso Craig.
All performed on The Soul of Jamaica, a compilation album produced and released in March by Paris-based independent label Chapter Two Records.
The set — which also has songs from Ken Boothe, Lloyd Parks, and The Viceroys — entered Billboard’s Reggae Album chart shortly after its release.
Rashaun McAnuff told the Jamaica Observer that preparations went well for the tour, with extensive rehearsals in Kingston.
“All the rehearsals went well, every artiste is delivering to the highest level. The album is number one on iTunes France and just enter the Billboard charts, so it is important to bring the exact sound and vibration to keep this album to its highest potential,” he said.
The Inna De Yard series started over 10 years ago with acoustic sessions at famed session guitarist Earl “Chinna” Smith’s Kingston home.
They produced unplugged albums by Kiddus-I, Junior Murvin, Linval Thompson, The Viceroys and The Congos.
Those albums were distributed by Makasound which was run by Frenchmen Nicolas Maslowski and Romain Germa, who are owners of Chapter Two Records.
