Knibb breaks national women’s discus record
PHILDELPHIA, United States — Kellion Knibb broke the Jamaica women’s discus throw record for the second time in a week after she retained her title yesterday at the 123rd Penn Relays Carnival. She threw 62.07 metres to lead a clean sweep of the first four places by Jamaican athletes.
The Florida State University fifth-year senior set a new personal best and Penn Relays record, which is also the 13th best throw in the world so far this year.
Last week, she threw 61.59m at a meet at Stanford, California — a then national record.
The University of the West Indies, Mona campus pair of Isheka Binns and Venique Harris were second and third, respectively, with former Holmwood Technical and national junior record holder Gleneve Grange — now of Florida State — taking fourth.
Binns threw 56.05m, just beating Harris (55.87m) and Grange throwing (55.78m).
