Cornwall College Old Boys honour three
Cornwallians, family and friends turned out in their numbers as the Cornwall College Old Boys’ Association (Kingston Chapter) honoured three distinguished Old Boys at its annual gala dinner and awards ceremony at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge last Saturday night.
Honourees were Professor Hopeton Dunn, Director of Caribbean Institute of Media Communication (CARIMAC) at the University of The West Indies, who was honoured for outstanding service in the field of media and communication; Clifton Yap, principal of Clifton Yap Architects, for outstanding service in the field of architecture; and Ivan Godfrey III who was recognised as Cornwallian-at-Large for his sterling contribution to the school and the chapter.Guests were welcomed and presented with the first edition of the Kingston Chapter Souvenir Magazine, which was hailed as a proud achievement by the association’s President Patrick Thompson.The chapter was presented with the Gerald “Gerry” Chambers Memorial Scholarship by the Chambers family. The scholarship, to be awarded annually, will fund the tuition of a deserving student entering sixth form each year.Chambers, who graduated from the Montego Bay-based Cornwall in 1959, served as chairman of the school board, president of the Old Boys’ Association Montego Bay, and was a founding member of the Homecoming Committee.Messages were brought by headmaster Dr Lennox Rowe and head boy Mikail Clarke.
