Bolt world record-breaking shoes to be auctioned for charity
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Usain Bolt’s white and gold limited-edition Puma track shoes in which he won the gold medal and broke the 100 metre world record at the 2009 Berlin World Championships will soon go on auction after being presented to wife of the Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, according to King’s House.
In a release, King’s House said Bolt made the presentation to Lady Allen in support of her patronage to the Issa Trust Foundation that has been providing equipment, medical service and treatment for the paediatric ward at hospitals across the island.Lady Allen said the track shoes will be auctioned to help raise funds for the foundation.
“Usain willingly came on board to support the work of the foundation three years ago when he initially gave me the track shoes, but today (Wednesday, May 10) we are renewing that purpose,” Lady Allen said. The shoes will reportedly go on auction two weeks ahead of a June 24 fundraising concert featuring Grammy award winning group, Air Supply, where the auction will end.The presentation was made at the Usain Bolt Track at UWI, Mona to an audience comprising Bolt management executives, Dian Pollard, CEO of the US-based Issa Trust Foundation and other executives, and other local business leaders. Also in attendance was Zoleka Mandela, granddaughter of the late Nelson Mandela.
