SO My Kingston Dr Kevin Henry

SO My Kingston Dr Kevin Henry

DR KEVIN HENRY

Woman’s World Medical-based obstetrician-gynaecologist

What would you do if you were Mayor of Kingston for a day?I would organise to have clean-up projects across the city, and discuss with the powers that be ways to improve civic pride. I think that’s something that is unfortunately lacking in our society nowadays.

How will you commemorate this Mother’s Day for the special woman in your life? This year I’m going to surprise my mother and take her to dinner on Saturday evening, because unfortunately I have work all day on Sunday. It’s a surprise so by the time she sees this hopefully she’ll be happily satisfied!

As a doctor who tends to women’s most private medical needs, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being an obstetrician and gynaecologist? To see patients who have benefitted in a positive way from my intervention and care is really all that matters. I feel very happy and rewarded when I am able to effect treatment and care and see it make a difference to my patients’ overall health and well-being.

The delivery room is a cherished communal space for mothers and me because ……it allows for a close and important bond to develop between a mother and her child which is an irreplaceable feeling, and as well for a patient and myself having guided her successfully through her pregnancy, labour and delivery process.

Off-the-clock, you’re one-fourth of the promoter squad for the popular Cabana series of all-inclusive parties. What particularly do you enjoy about this extra-curricular engagement?I do enjoy having fun and get satisfaction from others also enjoying themselves, so it is rewarding to be able to execute a well-rounded production which allows patrons to relax and enjoy themselves with their peers, whilst we as a team bring new and exciting ideas to life.

Where does faith and medicine intersect for you? Or are they separate?I believe that medicine has a spiritual component in as much as it is a science and an art, and divine intervention plays a role. I also think that it does help when patients themselves are strong in faith and believe in their healing through a higher being.

What book is currently resting on your bedside table?

The One Thing by Gary Keller.

The healthiest, happiest ways to live your best life are ……work hard, have a strong support system, maintain a healthy lifestyle, always find time to relax and do things you enjoy, learn from mistakes and always stay positive.

If you were to take a scalpel to reshape a chapter of your existence, when would it be, and why?I actually wouldn’t want to change anything thus far, from my past or present. I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason and every experience is a learning opportunity which shapes one’s character, so I am grateful for those experiences thus far.
