I noted that the

Jamaica Observer celebrated the career of Portia Simpson Miller, our first female prime minister, in the Sunday edition of May 14, 2017.When she was elected, in 2012, I was inspired to compose the tribute below. I hope you will find it appropriate at this time.

Popular, powerful, politician — the people’s choice,

Overwhelmingly outstanding as the sufferers’ voice.

Remarkably resourceful, she knows what to do

Thorough and thoughtful, faithful and true.

Indeed she’s a leader, of that there’s no doubt,

Absolutely unmatchable, if you cause her to shout. 

Sincerity is a feature of her character supreme,

Immaculate in her dresses, she’s a designer’s dream.

Marvellously motherly, a crowd-pleaser of note,

Pleasant and purposeful, she will win your vote.

Stalwart supporter of her party’s ideals,

Onward for ever she moves, like on wheels.

Nothing can stop her, she’s impossible to beat. 

Mamma P they call her, there’s a reason for that.

Intrepid, impeccable, she knows how to chat.

Loving and loyal, she’s dear to our hearts,

Leading by example, she’s top of the charts.

Efficient and enviable in the roles that she plays,

Refreshingly radical in her glorious ways.
