Not so, says VP Records
NEW York-based indie record label VP Records is contradicting statements made by reggae singer Gyptian that he has parted ways with the company.
Jennifer Valentin, publicity manager — VP Music Group, Inc, issued a statement yesterday which denied the artiste’s claims.“Reports that reggae artiste Gyptian is no longer signed to VP Records are false. On the contrary, VP Records can confirm that Gyptian remains an exclusive VP recording artiste. VP Records aims to establish and maintain strong working relationships with all of our artistes and endeavours to release the best possible product,” said Valentin in a statement to
Jamaica Observer yesterday.“The label holds Gyptian in high regard and looks forward to releasing his next project,” she continued.In an interview with
Observer, Valentin said she had no further comment beyond the statement.Founded in 1979, VP Records is known for its vast roster of reggae, dancehall, and soca artistes and wide distribution reach.On Monday Gyptian (given name Windel Beneto Edwards) said he had severed his relationship with label.“It has been a great journey with special memories made and I’m thankful for all the opportunities, but unfortunately I have decided to part ways with VP Music Group,” he said in a release.He cited contractual disagreements as his reason to split and that he would now be recording under his label, Ryte Dyrekshan Records.Several efforts to contact Gyptian and his handlers up to press time yesterday were unsuccessful.Gyptian’s albums include
My Name is Gyptian (2006);
