Jaguars, Saints register wins in Elite Basketball League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Granville Jaguars and Holland Saints scored contrasting wins on Tuesday as they edged closer to leaders and defending champions Catherine Hall All-Stars in the Western Basketball Association iCool/iDrade Elite Basketball League.
In games at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, Granville Jaguars beat MoBay Hoopers 72-48 to improve to 22 points, two behind Catherine Hall, while Holland Saints edged Inner-city Avalanche 47-46 and moved to 19 points in third place.Hoopers remained in fourth place on 17 points, one point and one place better than Avalanche.Another double-header will be played today at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, starting at 6:15 pm, with Lucea Flames taking on Cricket Club Knights and Muschett Falcons and Catherine Hall All-Stars.On Tuesday Saints led 11-9 and 24-17 after the first two quarters, but Avalanche exploded for 16 points in the third quarter to tie up the scores at 33-33 going into the final period.Led by a game-high 25 points and 19 rebounds by Shavaughn Reid, Holland got the better of the St James club in the final quarter as player/coach Ricardo Brooks chipped in with nine points and 12 rebounds.Fabian Julian also had a double-double for Avalanche with 19 points and 13 rebounds, Dovial Smith scored eight points and had two rebounds, while Damian Smith scored seven points and had 17 rebounds.In the second game, national representative Dave Black scored 25 points to lead Granville Jaguars to a comfortable 24 points win, leading from the very start.Leroy Lawrence scored 12 points and had 12 rebounds as well for Granville, who led 20-13, 32-18 and 46-25 after the first three quarters.Rayon Gardiner had 10 points and 16 rebounds for Hoopers, while Mikhail Smith scored eight points and had 14 rebounds.
