Fishing boat with 13 people disappears off Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast
MANAGUA, Nicaragua (CMC) – A fishing boat with 13 people on board has disappeared off Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast.
On Tuesday, the authorities reported that the vessel ‘Miss Johana Betsy’ set sail from the Corn Islands, a Nicaraguan territory, on June 29.
According to Edward Jackson, of the country’s fisheries authority, the navy and four fishing boats are preparing to start searching for the missing vessel.
Earlier this year, 13 Costa Rican tourists died when a passenger vessel sank off the coast of the Corn Islands.
That vessel went out to sea despite a warning issued by naval authorities about bad weather and strong winds.
In another incident in July 2016, authorities rescued 61 people from a fishing boat that sank off the country’s Caribbean coast.
