Police seize eight firearms in 24 hours
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police is reporting the seizure eight firearms, including one high powered weapon along with several rounds of ammunition, in separate incidents across the island.
Four people were arrested in connection with the seizures.
The firearms seized include: A Mack 11 sub-machine gun with two rounds of ammunition at Martin Street in Spanish Town, St Catherine; a.38 Special revolver with six rounds of ammunition in Linstead, St Catherine; a .22 revolver with three rounds of ammunition at Fleet Street in Kingston; a Springfield compact 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition at Orange Street in Kingston; a Taurus pistol with 9 rounds of ammunition in Ocho Rios, St Ann; a Beretta 9mm pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition in Barrett Town, St James; a Smith and Wesson pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition at Coral Gardens, St James; and an FS 9mm pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition in Trelawny.
The police say that in the Linstead and Coral Gardens incidents, men were shot and injured after they reportedly fired at officers.
Both matters have been reported to the Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), the police say.
