Cops seize four guns in less than 24 hours
SIX men are now in police custody following the seizure of four firearms and 55 rounds of ammunition in separate incidents in a 24-hour period.
According to the police, a Taurus 9mm pistol and a Glock pistol, along with three magazines and 48 rounds of ammunition, were seized during a traffic stop near Linstead, along the North-south leg of Highway 2000, about 11:07 pm Monday.
Reports are that the police signalled a white Suzuki Ertiga motor car to stop and a search was done. The Taurus pistol was allegedly found in the possession of one of the occupants of the vehicle, and the Glock pistol found inside the car. Three men were taken into custody.
Earlier, about 6:15 pm, a 9mm Glock 17 pistol was seized and two men arrested during a stop-and-search operation in Kingston. Reports are that officers assigned to the Olympic Gardens Police Station signalled a motorcyclist with a pillion passenger to stop. During a search of the men, the firearm was allegedly found.
And about 8:15 yesterday morning, a Universal Hialeah M1 30-calibre rifle with a magazine and seven rounds was seized during an operation in Goldsmith Villa, August Town. During an operation, the police say a house was search and the firearm discovered.
One man was taken into custody, the police say.
