Jamaica 55th celebrations commences with NDTC Gala
KINGSTON, Jamaica —The National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) will be hosting a special Gala at the Little Theatre starting next week to commence its Season of Dance for the Jamaica 55 celebrations.
The Gala will start next week Friday at 8:00 pm and will be followed by a cocktail reception in the garden at The Little Theatre.
According to a release from the NDTC, 16 dance and musical works make up the repertoire for the 2017 season.
NDTC’s Artistic Director, Barry Moncrieffe, said that this includes two new creations choreographed by celebrated former NDTC dancers, Tony Wilson and Professor Chris Walker.
Under the theme “Reflection, Celebration and Continuity”, “the company will share with the public, its distinctive journey of 55 years, shaped by the continuing artistic exploration of the aesthetics and realities of a rich Jamaican and Caribbean cultural heritage,” Moncrieffe explained.
There will also be a tribute to architect and set designer Michael Lorde, who passed away on Monday.
Lorde served the NDTC over many years.
The NDTC says that tickets for 55th Gala may be reserved by emailing ndtcjamaica@gmail.com. Tickets for the gala and the remainder of the season are available at The Little Theatre Box Office.
