Legal JPS connections in Majesty Gardens jump from 3 to 466
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has reported that 466 households in Majesty Gardens, St Andrew are now connected legally to the company’s power grid, a massive jump from the previous three legal customers in 2013.
The new figure is as a result of a 2015 project in which JPS engaged the community with a new strategy — one of partnership with the residents and other agencies, along with social intervention through its Community Renewal Programme.
The initiative saw the number of legal customers grow from 14 in June 2015, to 466 as at July 2017, JPS said, adding that it anticipates that by year end, roughly 600 of the 800 households in Majesty Gardens will be benefitting from legal electricity supply.
Partnership agencies include the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), and the University of Technology (UTECH).
