Peter Phillips: The ‘Artful Dodger’
Dear Editor,
Have you noticed how ‘proactive’ an activist Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips has been since his ascendancy as People’s National Party leader, to the point of tripping over his own feet?
In a race to position himself in our brains, this skilful political scientist and organiser dashed to Alpart to outmanoeuvre Government officials; tried to upstage Prime Minister Andrew Holness at the Usain Bolt Classic with his lengthy speech and got charred; raced to set up “land body”; and, since we are vulnerable and gullible, has been writing and appearing left, right and centre so that he can’t escape our attention.
But, have you also noticed how strangely silent and absent he has been from the burgeoning saga (betrayal, some would say) unfolding in St Andrew South Western, which is a potentially implosive party matter over which you would expect him to take charge?
Maybe it’s just a case of skilful politician (“the Artful Dodger”); man or mouse? Or is it that St Peter has resigned himself to being just “gatekeeper” and not judge on such glowing (as in “hot”, not heavenly) situations.
Any which way, it simply shows us who the man behind the mask really is.
