Gunmen caught firing gunshots in Trelawny community, arrested
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two men are now in police custody after they were reportedly caught firing gunshots in a Trelawny community yesterday.
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), police officers were travelling along Victoria Street in Trelawny when, on reaching the intersection of Cornwall Street, explosions were heard.
Checks were made and the two men were reportedly seen with guns, firing shots into the nearby community.
The police said one .357 Smith & Wesson Magnum revolver with five rounds of ammunition and one Austria Glock 19 pistol along with three rounds of ammunition were taken from them.
This was the second of four seizures by the police yesterday.
Earlier, about 5:45 am, lawmen confronted gunmen on Rosemary Lane in Kingston and one Smith and Wesson Springfield 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 14 rounds of ammunition was seized.
Then, about 7:20 pm, police found one Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing seven rounds of ammunition in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Reports are that a team of officers was on patrol in the area when they approached a man, who they said was acting suspiciously. The man allegedly ran, leaving behind a bag containing the firearm.
Meanwhile, in the final reported seizure of the day, the police said they found 20 .40 rounds of ammunition when they searched a group of men, who were congregating on an open lot in Bog Walk, St Catherine, about 10:30 pm.
Besides the Trelawny incident, the police did not report any further arrests in connection with yesterday’s seizures.
