Brown Burke ready to work in SW St Andrew
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Newly elected People’s National Party (PNP) standard-bearer for St Andrew South West, Angella Brown Burke, says she looks forward to retaining the seat for the party and working with stakeholders to continue the transformation of the constituency into a model of community development for others to follow.
In a release this morning, Brown Burke explained that her decision to run was because she believes that constituencies with the largest number of residents and most pressing development needs should get the best representatives to champion their development in Parliament.
She expressed gratitude to supporters for her victory and commended her opponent Audrey Smith Facey, on a good campaign. However, she appealed for a unified movement forward.
“Now that the selection process is behind us, we must work together, as one PNP to continue the task of mounting effective opposition to the current administration. There is much work to be done. We most forge ahead with our mandates to serve in our various divisions, constituencies and regions,” Brown Burke urged Smith Facey.
The former Kingston mayor also acknowledge the hardwork of her opponent, stating: “Comrade Audrey, you have been a hardworking member of the Peoples National Party, we have served together at the KSAC, and as members of the PNP Women’s Movement, and I know you will continue to give your best to your division and to South West St Andrew.”
She said she looks forward to working with each and every delegate in building up the “noble movement”, the PNP, and to ensure that party members will continue to actively participate in the democratic processes, whether it be elections, or simply to decide on new policies and processes in the party.
