Allison-McCracken resigns as Sunshine Girls head coach
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jermaine Allison-McCracken, the recently appointed head coach of Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls, has resigned from the post.
Making the announcement in a release this morning, Netball Jamaica said the resignation took effect after the organisation’s Board of Directors unanimously rejected McCracken’s terms and conditions to remain, which she had outlined in an email to the president and technical manager.
McCracken had indicated in her email that if the organisation did not adhere to the desired terms, she would tender her resignation effective July 31, Netball Jamaica said.
“The details and requests were discussed in a meeting of the Board of Directors of Netball Jamaica on August 3rd, 2017 and the agreeability of the terms put to the vote. The democratic process resulted in a unanimous vote to reject the proposed terms and accept the resignation of Mrs McCracken,” the release added.
The British coach, came under heavy scrutiny after a furore in April, when three senior members of the team were suspended for what was deemed inappropriate behaviour after they refused to adhere to certain instructions during training, particularly swimming.
This decision taken by McCracken was widely blamed for the stunning defeat against Barbados in May. This was the first time since 1984 that Barbados were defeating Jamaica at the senior level.
McCracken was appointed head coach in March and was on a six-month probationary period, which would have ended in September.
Netball Jamaica said her continuation as head coach of the Senior Sunshine Girls was contingent on a final appraisal of her performance over the period.
