#London2017: 3 J’cans through to women’s 200m semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Jodean Williams booked her spot 200-metre semi finals spot, clocking 23.38 seconds in heat one to qualify as one of the fastest losers. She was joined by Sashalee Forbes from heat 3 and Simone Facey, to advance to the semi-finals slated for Thursday afternoon.
Dutch reigning World Champion Dafne Schippers, won the first heat in a time of 22.63s.
Forbes took third in her heat, securing her spot in a time of 23.26 seconds.
USA’s Deajah Stevens and Bulgaria’s Ivet Lalova-Collio clocked 22.90s and 23.08s for first and second respectively.
Olympic 400m champion, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, seeking to capture double world titles for the 200 and 400m, started her campaign by winning heat 4 in a time of 22.69.
Facey clocked 22.98 seconds, crossing the line in second behind Miller-Uibo.
Tori Bowie, the fastest 200m of the season with 21.77s and 100m gold medallist, has withdrawn from the final opening heat.
“Tori Bowie has withdrawn from the 200 metres as she continues to recover from her fall at the conclusion of the women’s 100-metre final Sunday evening. Her condition will continue to be evaluated to assess her readiness for the 4×100 relay,” USA Track and Field said in a subsequent statement.
Earlier, Trinidad and Tobago’s 100m finalist Michelle-Lee Ahye was also absent from the heats. The final heat was won by Rebecca Haase of Germany in 22.99.
