#London2017: Campbell becomes first J’can to reach 5000m final
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Kemoy Campbell has qualified on time with 13:26.67 to become the first Jamaican man to reach a long distance final at the World Championships.
Campbell finished ninth in the second heat of the 5000m, which was won by Ethiopian Selemon Barega in 13:21.50 ahead of Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew (13:21.91) and Cyrus Rutto (13:22.45), the only member of the Kenyan triumvirate to make the final.
Earlier, Britain’s Mo Farah eased through heat one in 13:30.18, placing second behind Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha who qualified in 13:30.07.
