Clarendon needs help, says Arscott
CLARENDON, Jamaica —Opposition Spokesman on Local Government and Community Development Noel Arscott says he is supporting concerns raised by citizens in his and adjoining Clarendon constituencies regarding the effect of possible heavy rainfall associated with Hurricane Irma.
In a release today the former local government minister said most of the promised multimillion dollar gully and drain cleaning exercise and repairs to damaged infrastructure have not been completed.
“While some parishes may be affected more than others, there is no question if central Jamaica falls within the span of rainfall from Irma, special attention will be needed, based on the already damaged and unrepaired public systems and facilities that are necessary for economic activity,” Arscott said.
“We still have bridges not repaired and some with temporary covers that could be rendered unusable, if we are in the span of the expected deluge from this hurricane.”
“This call is not to create panic or spread fear; however it is intended to sensitise the Government to an area of the country where the infrastructure is still not back to normal and could easily worsen by the fury of Irma’s outer bands,” Arscott argued.
